Hypnotherapy for depression Canberra

Hypnosis for depression, low mood and feeling stuck

The alarm goes off and the day already feels heavy. The things you used to love feel flat, conversations take more effort than they should, and messages sit unanswered because explaining feels like too much. Some days, getting through the basics is all you can manage, and no one around you would guess how hard that is.

Depression isn't laziness, and it isn't a character flaw. It changes how your mind works, and the same negative thoughts can play on a loop until they start to feel like the truth. My hypnotherapy for depression in Canberra works alongside the care you already have, at my clinic or online, to help you challenge those thoughts and feel more like yourself again.

I've personally lived through depression, so I know how lonely it can be and how tiring it is to pretend you're fine. You don't have to do that here. Together, we work towards mornings with a little more energy, laughter that doesn't feel forced, and weekends you actually look forward to.

what sets my approach apart?

My expertise comes from training in clinical hypnotherapy and strategic psychotherapy, but my understanding of depression didn't come from a textbook. Having worked my own way through depression, anxiety and PTSD, I know what it's like to feel trapped when nothing seems to shift.

I've been where you are, and I know how heavy it feels.

In my hypnosis for depression sessions, I listen first. We talk about what's been happening for you: how long you've felt this way, what your inner voice keeps telling you, and what you'd love to get back. Then, in a deeply relaxed hypnotic state, we work with your subconscious mind, where many self-limiting beliefs, memories and past experiences sit. I draw on several therapeutic modalities, including hypnosis, mindset coaching and psychotherapy techniques from cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT).

Hypnotherapy for depression isn't a replacement for medical care. It works best as one part of a broader mental health care plan, alongside your GP, psychologist or any medication you've been prescribed.

Part of a Broader Plan

Hypnotherapy is used as an adjunctive treatment for depression, which means it supports care from your GP or psychologist rather than replacing it.

Long-Lasting Change

Rather than only managing how you feel day to day, we work on the subconscious patterns underneath, which can help create lasting change in how you see yourself.

HOW DEPRESSION CAN SHOW UP AND HOW HYPNOTHERAPY FOR DEPRESSION CAN HELP

Low Mood That Won't Lift

Some days it's sadness. Other days it's just nothing, a flat grey feeling that sits over everything. You might go through the motions at work and with your family while feeling disconnected from all of it. Hypnotherapy works on the patterns at the root of that low mood, so lighter days can start to come more often.

Losing Interest in Things You Used to Love

The hobbies, the catch-ups, the music you used to turn up loud. When depression takes hold, it can feel like someone turned the colour down on your daily life. As your mood starts to lift, you may be surprised to find yourself reaching for those things again, not because you should, but because you want to.

Negative Self-Talk

"I'm useless." "I always mess things up." "What's the point?" When it's on repeat in your head every day, your inner voice can start to sound like fact. Hypnosis helps you challenge those negative thoughts and reframe the thinking patterns behind them, so you can start speaking to yourself with more kindness.

Going Over and Over Things

Replaying the same mistakes, conversations and regrets, usually late at night. Rumination keeps you stuck in the past and makes the low mood heavier. Hypnotherapy can help reduce depressive rumination and retrain your brain's response, so those thoughts pass instead of pulling you under.

Exhaustion and Fatigue

Depression is draining, and it can feel like you're carrying a weight everywhere you go. Even after a full night in bed, you can wake up feeling like you haven't slept at all. The deep physical relaxation of hypnosis may help ease the stress and fatigue that come with depression, giving your body a chance to properly recharge.

Sleep Problems

Lying awake at 2am, or sleeping for hours and still waking up exhausted. Sleep and mood are closely linked. Hypnotherapy may help with the insomnia that often comes with depression, and a self-hypnosis routine, a little like guided meditation, gives you a calmer way to wind down at night.

Anxiety Alongside Depression

Depression and anxiety often turn up together. When you're dealing with both, the worry keeps you on edge, then the low mood drains whatever is left. Hypnotherapy may help ease the anxiety that comes with depression too, so you're not fighting on two fronts at once.

Low Self-Esteem and Pulling Away from People

Depression can quietly convince you that you're not worth the effort, or not capable of much, so you cancel plans, stop calling friends and keep to yourself. Hypnosis can help build self-esteem and confidence, so reconnecting with the people who care about you, and the community around you, starts to feel possible again.
