Understanding Anxiety

Craig Allen • January 31, 2023

Feeling anxious can be frightening and overwhelming, but it is essential to remember that anxiety was created for a reason. It exists to motivate us away from danger or towards success. Standing on the edge of a cliff and staring into an abyss showcases how it encourages caution-we want to stay safe!

Like that feeling of excitement when preparing for an upcoming test or trying something new for the first time, anxiety helps us recognize the importance of our actions, so we take steps to protect ourselves and excel. Believe it or not, anxiety shares many similarities with excitement- both are physical reactions triggered by significant events in life! Embrace this knowledge and see your relationship with fear begin to change as you focus on understanding rather than avoiding these feelings.

Anxiety isn't something to be feared or avoided. It's a natural emotion with an essential purpose - keeping us safe. But instead of being overwhelmed by worry and fear, allow yourself to dive into that sense of anticipation! Learning how to manage your anxieties can help you recognise their true nature.
